THE NEW MILFORD ARTS COMMITTEE
Establishment. The New Milford Arts Committee [hereinafter The Committee] is hereby established for the benefit of New Milford residents, to ensure that the borough’s creative community remains relevant, diverse, influential and valued and to advance the arts and humanities in the borough.
Purpose.
A. The Committee shall coordinate and conduct at least one cultural or performing arts program per year for the benefit of the residents of New Milford. These programs shall include but not be limited to art, dance, music and theater. The Committee shall also propose rules and regulations for the display or production of art in the borough’s public spaces.
B. The Committee shall (i) Identify, strengthen and promote New Milford’s cultural assets, infrastructure and artistic treasures; (ii) facilitate community involvement in the arts; (iii) recognize the economic power of the arts and culture in New MiIford; (iv) act on the borough’s behalf on arts and culture matters; (v) make recommendations regarding the architecture of commercial and other non-private buildings; and (vi) increase public art throughout the borough.
Members. Members shall be appointed by the mayor with the consent of the council. Members must reside or work in New Milford. There shall be no more than 10 committee members. Members are appointed for a term of one year. The Committee welcomes members from the business community, education community and art community as well as from other walks of life.
Meetings. The Committee shall meet at least 10 months every year at Borough Hall or, if necessary, via Zoom. Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed. The members shall elect a chairperson and a secretary.
Liaison. The mayor shall appoint a council liaison to the Committee. Location of Events. The events organized by the committee shall be held in or at a public area in New Milford and shall be free to the public.
Reports. The Committee shall submit a report to the Mayor & Council at the end of every year on their activities during the preceding year.
