Black Balloon Day

The Borough of New Milford observed Black Balloon Day in an observance at 11AM on March 6, 2020. Mayor Michael Putrino read a Proclamation and Alyssa Looman spoke about the national and international epidemic from a personal perspective, bringing awareness to overdose deaths.

NMPD Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Our new police department headquarters had its official ribbon cutting ceremony in March. In attendance were current and former members of the New Milford Police Department, New Milford's Governing Body, as well as many other distinguished guests. We are very appreciative to all those who attended and made this a very special event. During the ceremony, the police vehicle entrance way to the new headquarters was dedicated to Detective Lieutenant Brian Long, a dedicated member of this department who passed away in 2016. He will always be remembered by the NMPD.

Dr. Seuss Day

On March 2nd Mayor Subrizi, Police Chief Ramaci and Rec Director John Heinemann read to children of Gibbs and Berkley schools in honor of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. “The more that you read, the more things you will know.The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go” Dr. Seuss

Rain Barrel Event 2017

A full house of 28 New Milford residents took part in a “Build Your Own Rain Barrel” event on March 11th. The program was well received and participants, including Mayor Subrizi and Recycling Coordinator Julia Burdge, engaged in the process of building rain barrels with Jason and Alex, Ambassadors to the Hackensack Riverkeeper Coalition.


Recycle Truck Contest

Two winning designs were selected from each school with three runner-ups.
1st place winners from B.F. Gibbs Elementary School are: Erin Grady, Grade 4 and Ashleigh Stormer, Grade 3. Runner-up is: Keira McClaskey, Grade 4.
1st place winners from Berkley Elementary School are: Katie Kim, Grade 5 and Sukaina Fatima, Grade 4. Runner-up is: Marta Aptciauri, Grade 4.
1st place winners from David E. Owens Middle School are: Zaina Abbas, Grade 8 and Ianah Gallego, Grade 7. Runner-up is: Brandy Stormer, Grade 6.
The winning designs were turned into decals, which were placed on the sides of the trucks. Beside each decal will be the name of the student’s school with the words, “Designed by a Student from: (name of school).” The newly decorated trucks debuted in the Borough’s Memorial Day Parade and will be on the trucks for a period of one year. Another competition will then be held.

The Borough recently sponsored a recycling decal design contest for their three newly purchased recycling collection trucks. The competition was an opportunity for students from Berkley Street, and Gibbs Elementary Schools and the David E. Owens Middle School to use their imagination and creatively to express their understanding of the importance to reduce, reuse and recycle! Click on image for all the winning designs.
